Biden Administration
In October, the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC), of which HLC is a member, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Education reiterating their commitment to handling complaints from their respective stakeholders responsibly. This letter follows from guidelines regarding complaints that the Department put forth for accreditors In August 2023.
States
In November, HLC hosted its annual State Partners Meeting with representatives from state higher education agencies, national associations, and the federal government to discuss accreditation and higher education policy and practice. Session topics included teach outs and closures, credentials, federal updates, state legislative updates, reverse degree awards, financial risk and monitoring, complaints processes, transcript holds, and reduced credit hour degrees.
