Comment on Proposed Policy Changes
The Higher Learning Commission's Board of Trustees will consider the following proposed policy and bylaw changes for adoption at its meeting in June 2024.
Criteria for Accreditation
The proposed revisions to HLC's Criteria for Accreditation would:
- Emphasize HLC’s mission-reflective approach.
- Eliminate subcomponents from each Core Component.
- Combine Criteria 3 and 4 into one Criterion on “Teaching and Learning for Student Success.”
- Clarify, simplify and streamline language throughout the policy.

Proposed Bylaw Change

- Composition of Executive Committee
The Executive Committee of HLC’s Board of Trustees currently consists of the Board chair, vice chair, treasurer, and the chairs of all standing Board committees. The proposed change would expand the membership of the Executive Committee to include the immediate past chair of the Board.
