Seeking improvement at your institution in an area of assessment of student learning or student success? HLC’s Academies may be able to help. With evidence-based strategies that support sustainable improvement and guidance from expert practitioners, the Academies will guide you through a multi-year experience to make measurable change at your institution. 

HLC’s Assessment and Student Success Academies are now accepting applications to join the Fall 2024 cohort. This is the only application period this academic year, so don’t wait! Apply by June 10. 

About the Academies 

Assessment Academy  

Influence institutional culture, increase capacity at your institution and use your data to improve learning through assessment. The Assessment Academy is a four-year experience consisting of in-person events, on-campus activities, online updates and virtual consultations that will help you design and implement a customized assessment plan to improve student learning. Student Success Academy  

Move beyond initiative-based solutions and address systemic barriers to students achieving their goals. In the Student Success Academy, you’ll complete an environmental scan and create a Student Success Plan that addresses gaps in your student data, initiatives, infrastructure, and campus-wide engagement within the first two years. The optional third year focuses on implementation and sustained momentum. Explore the full Student Success Academy timeline. 

Academy Benefits 

• In-person and virtual events that serve as team retreats, with dedicated time to connect and plan. 
• Expert, tailored guidance from practitioners and scholars. 
• Opportunities to connect, learn from and collaborate with peers across HLC’s membership. 
• Access to SparQ—HLC’s platform for documenting your Academy progress and building a network of support.  

Academy participation can serve multiple institutional objectives. On the Open Pathway, Academy participation may serve as the Quality Initiative for your institution. The Academies may be completed in conjunction with other programs from nonprofits or to meet locally mandated initiatives. You can also choose to focus Academy participation on addressing areas for improvement identified by HLC evaluations or by your institution.
