Accreditors Back Use of AI in Credit Transfer Evaluations

HLC joined other members of the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) in a statement encouraging institutions to explore ways of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technology innovations to improve their learning evaluation (or credit evaluation) processes. Such innovations may help to reduce credit loss and streamline the process for students, faculty and staff.

The statement provides recommendations for how institutions may approach the learning evaluation process. It also emphasizes that “the use of AI in learning evaluation does not conflict with accreditation standards, policies or practices. … Since innovating to advance student success is a central tenet of accreditation expectations, C-RAC supports the exploration and application of transparent, accountable, and unbiased AI solutions within the practice of learning evaluation and credit transfer.”
