Learning Opportunities to Prepare for Your Evaluation With HLC

Did you know that we offer team workshops for our member institutions that are preparing for a review? These virtual one- or two-day events allow you to gather a team from your institution and advance the work for your comprehensive evaluation or Assurance Review.

Each workshop is meant to guide you through the planning and Assurance Argument writing process: getting your team organized, identifying recommendations from previous reviews, executing a persuasive argument and proving the existence, use and effectiveness of your evidence.

Collaborating on Quality: Preparing for a Comprehensive Evaluation

  • Who is eligible? Representatives from institutions 18 to 24 months out from a comprehensive evaluation.
  • What does it cover? Finding recommendations from peer reviewers in previous reports, building an effective steering committee and developing a strategy and planning timeline.
  • What are the key activities? Experienced peer reviewers will guide you through reviewing the weakest Core Component from the previous evaluation and creating a plan for the next two years.

Writing About Quality: Crafting a Persuasive Assurance Argument

  • Who is eligible? Representatives from institutions nine to 18 months out from a comprehensive evaluation or Year 4 Assurance Review.
  • What does it cover? Telling your story based on your mission and context, strategies for embedding evidence into the narrative and addressing recommendations from the previous evaluation.
  • What are the key activities? You’ll brainstorm how your mission informs your institutional strategy, review an example argument for strengths and weaknesses, and practice writing and revising a draft excerpt of your argument with guidance from seasoned Accreditation Liaison Officers (ALOs) and peer reviewers.

Demonstrating Quality: Refining Your Assurance Argument

  • Who is eligible? Representatives from institutions six to 12 months out from a comprehensive evaluation or Year 4 Assurance Review.
  • What does it cover? Filling gaps in your argument, evaluating the existence, use and effectiveness of your evidence and planning how to finalize your argument and evidence file.
  • What are the key activities? You’ll reflect on the progress of your draft and set priorities for the work that remains. You’ll also receive personalized feedback on a draft excerpt of your argument by the workshop leaders (experienced peer reviewers).

Registration for each offering opens a few months ahead of the event. If your institution is eligible, the ALO, Primary Filing Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer will receive an invite via email.

In addition to these invite-only events, we offer several webinars on HLC accreditation processes throughout the year, along with other virtual and in-person workshops on student success, assessment and more.
