As we prepare for our Annual Conference, there is a lot of activity around the Higher Learning Commission. Recently the board of HLC met, and they are looking forward to joining you in Chicago in April. My own preparation includes development of the 2024 Trends, which will be available at the conference. Recognizing a very hot trend in postsecondary education is Artificial Intelligence, I decided to enroll in a 6-course program to become more informed about the topic. I know what I do not know, and that is a lot.
While use of AI is in a semi-nascent stage at many colleges and universities, others are doing fascinating advanced research in this area. My own course taught me how some public schools use facial recognition to create safer entry into their facilities. Doctors are using AI for a large range of applications. HLC’s research universities are increasingly active in seeking new applications. I look forward to learning more and sharing some fun findings during the Welcome Address.
We all look forward to seeing many of you as we discuss the current state of higher education and accreditation next month in Chicago!
