Welcome to the first issue of Leaflet in the new year. January is a busy time for the Higher Learning Commission as we prepare for several upcoming events, including our Annual Conference in April.
This is the time of year that I pull together the latest trends in higher education by reviewing publications and activities of the past year, and it certainly has been an interesting time for higher education. The infusion of artificial intelligence (AI) creates exciting new possibilities in many fields, and concomitant challenges as to the varying opinions of the place AI should play in our lives, professionally and personally. Shifts in enrollment trends, mergers, closures and the emergence of new programs are all prominent. Many states have weighed in on the best pathways for higher education, and the debates continue to permeate our campuses. I look forward to sharing the 2024 Trends in April.
As the year unfolds, we are proud to see the positive impact of our member institutions on the students and communities they serve. Teaching, learning and research are changing lives, and we wish you great success in 2024. The HLC Board and staff members stand ready to work with you on quality assurance, innovation and continuing to change lives.
