ALO Orientation: An Introduction to the Role at HLC

Get the information you need to be successful as a new Accreditation Liaison Officer in HLC’s six-week, self-paced orientation course. The course includes overviews of the accreditation and peer review processes as well as information on managing substantive change, required reporting to HLC, and resources available through the HLC website.

You will hear from experienced ALOs and get tips on how to work successfully with HLC staff and build support for accreditation work on campus.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in live Zoom sessions and get your questions answered by HLC staff members and course facilitators. Register now and secure your place in the course.

Live Zoom Sessions: 

  • Introduction to the Course:  Tuesday, October 8,  12-12:45 p.m. CT
  • Q&A with HLC Staff:  Monday, October 21, 1–1:45 p.m. CT
  • Closing Discussion with Experienced ALOs: Monday, November 4, 2–2:45 p.m. CT

Who Should Attend?

This orientation program is for new ALOs responsible for coordinating and managing their institution’s accreditation process.

For those who attended the 2024 Annual Conference, this training will dive deeper into topics covered during ALO-related sessions.

Modifications

Cancellations & Refunds

All cancellation requests must be sent to HLC in writing to [email protected].

Refunds resulting from cancellations will be based on the following dates:

  • Cancellations requested on or before September 16, 2024, will be eligible for a full refund minus a $25 processing fee per person.
  • Cancellations requested between September 17 – September 29, 2024, will be eligible for a 50% refund minus a $25 processing fee per person.
  • Cancellations requested on or after September 30, 2024, are not eligible for a refund.

Technology and Materials

SparQ

Participants will access this course through SparQ, HLC’s collaborative learning hub. The course syllabus will be emailed to each confirmed participant before the start date of the course.

Zoom

Three live sessions will be held via Zoom. Participants are responsible for installing and configuring any software or hardware that may be required to participate in the training.  

Those with high-speed internet access should already have all the necessary tools to participate in the course. For the best user experience, use of Google Chrome (preferred), Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge is recommended.

Before registering for the online event, ensure that your device meets the platform requirements by following these steps: 

  1. Check the Zoom System Requirements to confirm your device can support the platform.
  2. Run an Internet Speed Test on the device(s) that will be used to connect to the online meeting. Compare the results to the Zoom system requirements to ensure the internet speed matches the recommended bandwidth for meeting attendees.
  3. Turn on your built-in computer camera or webcam and connect. Visit the Zoom Download Center to check if the latest version is installed or to update your Zoom application. For the best attendee experience, we recommend that you turn on your built-in computer camera or webcam and connect your audio directly through your device or with headphones.
