The applications for the Fall 2023 Student Success and Assessment Academies are now open.

President of Moraine Valley Community College Sylvia M. Jenkins, Ph.D., discussed her institution’s experience with recently joining the Spring 2023 cohort of the Assessment Academy. She said that MVCC learned about the Academies through HLC’s email updates.

“MVCC joined the Assessment Academy to enable a core team from the College the time and support from HLC to create a plan of action and to actualize steps in the continuous improvement of assessment of student learning,” Jenkins said. “Participation in the Academy aligns with several of the College’s strategic goals.” 

Jenkins said that the College seeks to address challenges identified in its most recent strategic plan. “Moraine Valley’s current assessment challenges exist around conducting assessment activities and faculty having both a broad and program-specific understanding of assessment practices, including operationalizing assessment plans and using results in meaningful ways,” she said. “Finding manageable ways to conduct meaningful assessment and closing the loop is critical.” MVCC also hopes to satisfy the Quality Initiative project through the Academy. 

“Moraine Valley is looking forward to receiving specialized mentorship and support from HLC through online and in-person trainings to further its culture of assessment,” Jenkins said. 

HLC will host two virtual info sessions on the Academies this spring, which will provide a high-level overview and time for Q&A: 

Session 1: April 12, 1 – 2 p.m. CT 

Session 2: May 2, 1 – 2 p.m. CT
