Triad Resources for Consumer Awareness
Working with the Credential Engine and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, HLC has published a new report, Consumer Awareness: Curating Information About Higher Education.
The report looks at the current state of higher education information and identifies some ways to help consumers navigate it.
“Research tells us that the universe of options and opportunities for students, learners, jobseekers, workers, transitioning veterans, or individuals returning from incarceration is both massive and confusing.”
Accreditors and state agencies have resources to ensure transparent and curated information for consumers of higher education. The report particularly highlights HLC’s Student Guide website and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s use of the Credential Transparency Description Language.
The report calls for all higher education stakeholders to continue working toward transparency for students. “True transparency in higher education should utilize open, linked, transparent data about providers, credentials, competencies, quality indicators, outcomes, pathways, and links to job skills.”
